As I have lived in the city for some months, I got to visit some of their best restaurants and to taste all their amazing traditional food and more!

Below is the list of the best places for going out – restaurants, bars, and nightclubs – all recommended to me by the locals! We also sorted them out by type of food and genre of music for your convenience.

Brunch & Cake is another great place to start your day or you can enjoy a delicious brunch together with your friends! Their philosophy is a very simple one: all of their dishes are handmade and slowly cooked, just like our grandmothers used to do!

2. Food Halls

Go to food halls if you want to choose from a variety of restaurants, cuisines, and dishes. Most of the food halls in Barcelona have good prices and amazing food, and they’re the perfect choice if you are in a rush or if you want to have some eating options.

2.1. El Nacional

El Nacional is a great food hall hosted in a very modernist building. The concept behind El Nacional is to enter a place where you can choose from different types of food located in 4 different areas of the building. You can find there many types of food from all around the Iberian Peninsula and even some nice bars.

Sunday – Wednesday: nonstop kitchen from 12:00 PM to 12:00 AM and the whole space will remain open to 02:00 AM.

Thursday – Saturday: nonstop kitchen from 12:00 PM to 01:00 AM and the whole space will remain open to 03:00 AM.

As you might guess, the best tapas bars in Barcelona are always crowded and full of people that want to taste the yummy dishes. If you decide to visit one of these places, be prepared to stay in line for a bit, especially if you are going at peak times.

A great area where you will find many tapas is Carrer de Blai, also known as “Pintxos alley” (pintxos are also a kind of Spanish cheap snacks, just like tapas). You can only imagine how many options you will have! To get to Carrer de Blaj, you must take the metro and get down at “Parallel” stop. Here are my recommendations for great tapas places in this area, as well as some other areas:

3.1. L’Atelier de Blai

Atelier de Blai is a cozy place where you will find great food and a very nice atmosphere. It’s a great place if you want to spend some time with friends over a glass of wine and some delicious snacks!

Open from Monday to Saturday from 5:30 PM to 1:00 AM. Sundays from 5:00 PM to 1:00 AM. Tuesday closed.

Zodiaco is a nice place with a great value for money! The menu is varied and you can choose from different, accessible snacks with great taste!

Ciudad Condal is an authentic Spanish tapa place that will offer you a true culinary experience! I recommend all the tapas on their menu and even the paella, as it is really delicious. If you want to avoid the crowds, you can go there at around 7-8PM, but it is not guaranteed that you won’t have to wait a bit for your food to be ready.

Quimet & Quimet is very crowded, but the food and drinks are definitely worth the wait! Anything on their menu is guaranteed to be delicious and the staff is very friendly also!

In case you are craving some Middle-Eastern treats, here is one of the places I can totally recommend:

4.1. Ziryab Fusion Tapas Bar

Go to Ziryab if you to eat tapas with a twist! If you don’t know what to order, you can get the “tapas tasting menu” which is a great way to enjoy all the best dishes on their menu. All you need to know is that their tapas are different from everything you will taste in Barcelona: imagine Mediterranean pittas paired with delicious dips, halloumi tapas, and roasted potatoes!

5.1. La Pallaresa Xocolateria Xurreria

Granja La Pallaresa is my first recommendation for a great place where you can enjoy some authentic churros. Make sure to pair your sweet treat with a big cup of coffee or hot chocolate with whipped cream!

Casa Amattler (Amattler house) is said to be one of the most beautiful buildings in Barcelona that can even compete with the famous Gaudi buildings! After your tour there, I recommend you serve a cup of delicious artisan chocolate and some churros at their on-site café!

If that happens, sandwich places are some of the best options as you can get your order to go and you usually don’t have to wait in the line that long, especially if you want takeaway!

6.1. Bo de B

Bo de B offers a great atmosphere, great sandwiches, fresh salads, and a great overall experience! If you decide to go here, you might have to wait in line, as the place is very small and there are many people going there on a regular basis.

If you are looking for some budget-friendly ways of enjoying Spanish meals, “menu del dia” (which means the menu of the day) is a great solution for lunch! You will get a set menu (usually 3 courses) for a lower price than getting individual courses and the food is usually fresh and super delicious!

7.1. Oviso

Oviso is a great place for cheap and yummy meals. You can get a menu del dia there for around 6.5€, which is the cheapest you can get in Barcelona! Plus, the staff is super friendly and if you go there in the evening I recommend you try some nachos and drinks!

Veggie Garden is a very good eating place, especially for vegetarians and vegans. They even have some gluten-free options, which is always great! The “menu del dia” is around 8.50 – 10€ and it has a great value for money, as the food is super delicious and the portions are generous!

8. Buffet (All you can eat)

8.1. FrescCo

Fresc Co is a great, budget-friendly place and a good quality food chain that serves fresh meals. The salad box is 3.95€ and it can be completely customized by choosing from over 30 ingredients. The best part about this place is the all-you-can-eat buffet: you only pay 12.95€ and you can indulge in everything you like! Plus, children under 3 years can eat for free here!

9.1. Veggie Garden

As I said before, Veggie Garden is a great vegetarian place that offers vegan options, too. I recommend you get the “menu del dia” for less than 10 euros if you want to save some money but still eat some nutritious and healthy food.

Bar Celonetta is an amazing place where you can serve veggie tapas, raw and sugar-free desserts and then end your meal with a refreshing sangria! And you absolutely have to try the vegan paella! Please note that this is a small place and they can’t seat groups over 6.

Segons Mercat is a nice restaurant where you can serve fresh food, fresh tapas and, of course, delicious paella! It is located in Barcelonetta neighborhood but they also have a location in Eixample neighborhood.

Senyor Parellada is a charming place where you will get to taste the real Catalan food! If you want to indulge in some authentic Catalan dishes in the beautiful El Born neighborhood, this is the perfect place to go!

At Pizza Circus you can serve different types of pizza slices at a very reasonable price (2.50€ a piece). In case you are craving something else, they also have some other yummy dishes you can try. The atmosphere is very pleasant and the staff is friendly!

1. Razzmattaz

Founded in 2000, Razzmattaz has to be the most famous and iconic nightclub in Barcelona and in the world! This nightclub is huge, it has many rooms with different types of music and it can feel like a labyrinth. One of the best things about this place is that it is also a live music venue where many famous bands have played over the time, such as Coldplay, Kanye West, Arctic Monkeys, and more! The list is huge!

Palau de la Musica is a place with regular shows with classical music and chorus. It is true that you will pay a bit more for your ticket here, but it is totally worth it as the concerts have a very high quality, the artists are great and the setting is simply astounding!
