Unusual Paris - 6 places that you probably did not visit

I have always been curious about the world that existed beyond my local town. One place I had always dreamt of visiting was Paris and so when I got a chance to live there for a while, I couldn’t turn it down!

During my not-that-long stay in Paris, I vowed to see everything that I could. Especially non-touristic, unusual stuff in Paris.
Except for my visit to Bibliothèque François Mitterrand, there is so much more that I want to share with you!
I made new local friends because I knew they would be the easiest way for me to get to see the hidden treasures of Paris.

1. Edith Piaf Museum

They were the ones who took me to the Edith Piaf Museum and I must say, it is a lovely hidden gem! Small but intimate, it showed off all of Edith Piafs’ musical achievements, a true celebration of the musical icon that she was. (Attention – if you go there, here is their info, try to call them in advance just to double check they are open today). In addition, I should say that there is also her grave that is located in Pere Lachaise cemetery that is worth to visit)

2. Catacombs of Paris

My local friends also took me to the catacombs of Paris, which is practically the largest underground graveyard (6 million (!!!) people are buried there. At first, I thought that it would be odd to visit a graveyard but once I visited the catacombs, I was fascinated by the history of how the catacombs came about and just how old some of the bodies were.

3. Museum of eroticism

When outgoing my best friends came to visit, one of them suggested that we visit the museum of sex in Paris. At first I was adamant not to go, however, it didn’t take long before my curiosity got the best of me. 🙂 For me, the whole experience was a bit strange, weird and unbelievable but definitely worth the visit. I would definitely recommend the museum of eroticism to anyone. (well, maybe the 6^th floor was a bit too much…).

4. Shakespeare and Co.

For an avid reader like me, I was in book heaven! I spent hours in the store and I couldn’t believe all the awesome books that they had. I went back nearly every month after I discovered it, it become my little haven! You should definitely just come see, it has this indescribably atmosphere that you just need to feel. It is very conveniently located right in front of Notre Dame de Paris.

5. Museum Du Quai Branly

Also, the Musee Du Quai Branly is in my list of uncommon stuff in Paris. It is a huge museum that celebrates the different cultures and arts of the word including the Americas, Africa, Asia and Oceania. The museum has several galleries and they all give you a glimpse of the different cultures in the world and just how different people are. It was one of those eye-opening places that shows you how interesting the world is!

6. Pont de l’Alma

Finally, I discovered the Pont de l’Alma during one of my long walks through Paris. The Pont de l’Alma is a bridge across the Seine and it is particularly beautiful at night especially because the whole bridge is illuminated by hundreds of lights. It is also close to the Pont de l’Alma tunnel where Princess Diana was killed in a car accident.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]I also wrote a popular blog post about How to avoid queues in Paris, it might be very useful for you, check it out!
