As you might’ve guessed, the Central Business District is right in the middle of the city, where all the action happens! This vibrant neighborhood, located 13 miles (21 km) from the International Airport, is filled with many attractions like the Museum of Africa. 4. Sandton – best place to stay in Johannesburg for shopping

4%20Sandton%20District%20for%20shopping

This suburb is located in the north part of the city, just 11 miles (18 km) from the Central Business District. Sandton resembles Johannesburg’s CBD although it’s a mixture of tall modern buildings, parks, and houses.

Many years ago, when the crime rate increased in the Central Business District, many companies moved their headquarters to this area. Although that issue has disappeared now, the company owners didn’t move, and now the area is home to Johannesburg Stock Exchange and other attractions.

I think this is a super convenient area as it’s located just a 15-minute ride with high-speed Gautrain from the O.R Tambo International Airport. But that’s not it, it’s certainly where all the shopping lovers amongst you should stay in Johannesburg. Sandton City Shopping is one of Johannesburg’s top locations for shopping and you could spend a lifetime checking out all the cool stores and restaurants!

After all that shopping you might want to spend some time outdoors, luckily for you, it also has many parks and green areas where you can enjoy some outdoor activities. I think it’s simply perfect!

5. Melville – where to stay in Johannesburg for the local vibe

5%20Melville%20neighbourhood%20in%20Johannesburg%20South%20Africa

Located 4 miles (6 km) south of Rosebank, Melville is a cute little residential neighborhood in Johannesburg, South Africa, and one of the oldest as well! It still has that South African charm that some hip neighborhoods have lost due to all the modern features so if you want to experience that local vibe this is the best area to stay for you!

Filled with farmhouse-style homes, tons of jacarandas trees, and a super diverse high street packed with restaurants and bars that are located within walking distance, Melville has managed to maintain its value and authenticity over time and attract more tourists every year!

Its close and convenient location to Johannesburg’s universities has made this area super popular with students so don’t be surprised if all the bars and restaurants are filled with young people and couples!
