Old Montreal is a great destination if you like to explore the area by foot, especially the Old Port, which is at the edge of this area. You can also find here one of the most scenic bike paths starting in the Old Port of Montréal – the Lachine Canal multipurpose path.

Wondering where to stay in Montreal with your family and kids? Here is your answer!

Plateau Mont Royal is right at the base of Mont Royal and has become one of the trendiest neighborhoods in the city where you can also find accommodations with rooftop terrace! (If this sounds like you, don’t miss area #4 below).

You can hike up to the top of the mountain to get amazing views of the city or stay in the lower area and find a nice tam-tam show every Sunday.

Keep walking along the family-friendly Plateau Mont-Royal and see the colorful houses and funky murals that make it look like a live gallery. You might end up at L’Express restaurant, a chic, great place where you’ll feel you have crossed into Paris thanks to their décor and service!

This Montreal area is probably the best for any foodie! It has so many one-hundred-year-old bagel shops, Italian-style cafes, and hip bars. There are also many vintage clothing shops, fashionable boutiques, and independent bookstores – so it’s clearly a perfect place for any type of traveler!

Although it is technically part of Le Plateau-Mont-Royal, it is an almost completely different district, as it’s a “cooler” version with très-chic establishments.

NOTE: Unfortunately, there are no luxury hotels in the area. If you are looking for a luxury stay nearby, I recommend staying in the larger Plateau Mont Royal area (above) which has some great choices. 

For the other price ranges, I can recommend the following hotels and apartments:

Mid-range (US$130 – US$200)

• Sonder l Le Guerin – You can’t go wrong with the value this apartment hotel provides. It has a stunning interior, clean, comfortable rooms, and a fully equipped kitchen with dining area. You can self check-in and get all of the hotel information all on their app!
• Lofts du Parc LaHaie – Another amazing apartment in the area, with modern design rooms that are spotlessly clean and spacious. Access is via door code, so there is no need to worry about losing your key. You can spot a lot of good local restaurants nearby and beautiful parks as well.

The Village (also known as Gay Village) is a small neighborhood home to Montreal’s LGBTQ community and as typical as it may sound, this area is PACKED with bars and clubs!

So if you are wondering where to stay in Montreal for nightlife, this is definitely your best bet! It’s one of the most vibrant areas in the city and it’s home to about 80 bars and restaurants open year-round and in summer, they all have patios where you can dance the entire night!

If New York is the city that sleeps, Montreal is for sure the New York of Canada!

What’s more, this area has an abundance of hostels full of young people who want to have a great time on a budget. Can you think of anything better for backpackers? This place is heaven! 

NOTE: Since it is an area predominantly catering towards backpackers and nightlife, unfortunately there are no luxury hotels in the area. If you want to stay nearby though, I recommend the Latin Quarter, just south of here. 

For everyone else, here are the best hotels I recommend for a more affordable price range:

Mid-range (US$150 and up)

• M Montreal Hostel – This modern place to stay in the Village is so fancy and well-organized you won’t believe you’re not at a hotel! The rooms have hardwood floors and original stone walls from the main building. There is also a shared kitchen, a dining area, a full bar, a cafe, and rooftop terrace for the guests. This one is close to Parc Lafontaine as well!
• Maison Des Jardines B&B – This is a great bed and breakfast with comfortable rooms and cozy shared spaces! Get ready, as the amazing hosts will make you feel at home. The rooms have either a private or a shared bathroom, and there is a garden-terrace and kitchen for all the guests to use.

The Latin Quarter is actually part of a bigger district called the Quartier des Spectacles. And yes, you guessed it right, other than the Gay Village, this neighborhood is another excellent choice for all travelers out there interested in experience the best nightlife that Montreal has to offer!

This is the ideal place to book a room if you want to be surrounded by art galleries, cinemas, cool pubs and everything else in-between.

Some other notable attractions around include Place Émilie-Gamelin square and the University of Quebec, so make sure to add these to your itinerary as well!

NOTE: Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any cheap hotels for this area.

Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie is very well connected to the center, it has numerous parks and tons of cafes and restaurants around too! In case you are going to stay in there, these hotels are great for traveling with kids – Gite du Survenant Montreal (can cook for the family) and Petite-Italie Easy Parking EcoDesign (Children’s books and toys, a crib and a high chair will be provided).

But if you are looking for something a bit more central, I have hand-picked some awesome family hotels in central Montreal and sorted them by price below: 

Hotels:

• L’Appartement Hôtel (from $149) – it is a great choice for families that wish to prepare their own meals, use the laundry facilities, and hire babysitters.
• Loews Hotel Vogue (from $200) – they have interconnecting rooms in case that is what you need, kids’ meals, baby safety gates and babysitting services.
